These are my general rules for the Gen 4/5 Random Nuzlockes I do from time to time:

1) If a Pokémon is knocked out at any time, it cannot be used again, and must be placed in a box named "Heaven".

2) In any new area where pokémon can be caught, only the first fully unevolved pokémon can be caught and used. This does NOT include legendaries. So, Aggron cannot be caught, but Aron can. Encounters will continue until an eligible pokémon is found. Encounters before the availibility of Poké Balls do not count.

(A single named location can have more than one new "area" within it, if it fulfils at least two of the following: It is graphically/atmospherically different, it has a different soundtrack, and it has a different set of encounters. An example of this is the inside and outside of Pinwheel Forest.)

3) If a Pokémon has been caught before, it cannot be caught again, even if it has been knocked out before.

4) In the case where the randomiser fails to randomise encounters in an otherwise eligible area, a substitute pokémon may be caught from the closest possible area. The encounter must still follow rule 2.

5) Gift pokémon may be accepted in games with few areas to catch wild pokémon. This is most relevant for Black/White 1.

6) Battle Rules must always be Set instead of Shift. Use of in-battle items should be restricted based on the opponent.

7) Early on in the game, if a wild pokémon uses Dragon Rage/Sonicboom/a OHKO move and I could not possibly avoid a loss to it, it will not count towards the Nuzlocke run. Think what you will of this - these are unnatural conditions to play under, and I will not take a loss on Route 1 to a level 3 Hydreigon using Dragon Rage as I can't get away xD

8) Trainer pokémon may be randomised as well, it depends on what I feel like at the start of a game. I may also use additional codes to allow for Move Tutor moves and such-like, again depending on the overall difficulty of the challenge.

9) Finally, these are community challenges, so people in the chat play an important role in determining how these runs go. From giving nicknames to pokémon, to ironing out grey areas in the rules, I frequently ask my chat to help out and vote on things. So don't be afraid to put your opinion out there as well!
